The Lionel Young Blues Band (virtuoso electric violin, horns and guitar-driven band)

Lionel Young is a high energy performer with a bent for the Blues.  His Lionel Young Blues Band has won numerous awards for BEST BLUES BAND in and around the Colorado region.  They will be rockin’ the room at Lannie’s on Sunday, September 16th at 7:30pm!

Lionel has had the honor of working with such showbiz luminaries as:  Count Basie, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Paige/Robert Plant, Doc Severenson, Linda Ronstadt, Living Color, Billy Taylor, Woodie Herman, Stanley Turrentine, Homesick James, Homer Brown, Hamlet Bluiett, Chief Bae, and Johnny Long.

Fans of the driven, classically trained Young, love his distinctive brand of Blues on the electric violin. His show features not only his own originals, but interpretations of Blues classics by Willie Dixon, Leadbelly and Stevie Ray Vaughan.  These interpretations show off the strength and passion of Young’s playing, as well as his smooth vocals and unique translations. The songs, which include his award-winning composition, “Brown Cloud Over Denver,” and “Hey, O.J.,” a controversial little gem, alternately stir up social concerns and soothe the weary soul. It’s prime. It’s fun. It’s Lionel Young.

Throughout his career, Lionel has won numerous awards including:  The International Blues Challenge (IBC) Solo Award in 2007, The Young Artist Award (Pittsburgh Symphony), The Concerto Contest (Carnegie-Mellon), The Passamenic Award (Branchwood String Quartet), and the award for the Best Blues Band in Westword Newspaper’s Best of Denver.  Lionel also won a position with The Denver Chamber Orchestra and premiered a solo piece by William Hill.

Critics say:

“If you’re not familiar with  Lionel, you’re missing out.  A classically trained violinist, he’s turned  the corner into a quirky brand of Blues.  Nearly everyone who’s seen him says, “I’ve never seen anyone play  violin and make it sound like a guitar,” or “I’ve never… his playing  the… man, that’s good!”

“The Lionel Young Band knocked it out……expanding to embrace a New  Orleans vibe that packed the dance floor.”
