ABOUT STEVEN ST. JAMES
Steven St. James is someone you might recognize from his many local television commercials and stage performances. He is a talented entertainer and is the man of “many voices,” featured on hundreds of radio commercials. His impersonations have thrilled audiences for years. Steven also had roles on such television shows as: Perry Mason starring Raymond Burr, Father Dowling Mysteries starring Tom Bosley , and Diagnosis Murder starring Dick Van Dyke. Steven can be seen currently, crooning in the style of the “Rat Pack” at parties, weddings, and private events. He is also the chairman of the Greater Glendale Fine Arts Committee.
ABOUT STEVEN’S CONDITION
A few years ago, a blood test at the 9 Health Fair, revealed some dangerously high levels of iron in Steven’s blood, which led to more tests. The results were not good, they showed that Steven had the severest possible form of Hepatitis C (a viral disease of the liver). Doctors think the Hepatitis had been lying dormant inside of Steven since his military days in Vietnam. One guess is that inoculations, during boot camp, so long ago, may be triggering the disease in the veterans now, but who knows?
For Steven, his liver showed little scarring at first, so doctors suggested that he wait until a new drug came out, which had a promising 80% cure rate. When the drug was released, Steven began his 6 months of treatment which included injections of Interferon and antiviral pills. The negative side effects were numerous and left Steven with major fatigue. At the end of his treatment, he showed no detectable signs of the virus…however, 6 months after that, another blood test revealed that the Hepatitis had returned…he was NOT one of the 80%.
So, Steven remains the optimist, eating right, working out, and doing what he loves most, entertaining and singing. He hopes to avoid getting cirrhosis or liver cancer as long as he can, until a promising new anti-viral drug is approved and released.
