Dave Shirley’s One Man Show “RattleBrain” (Relentless Comedy)
“Shirley’s bits draw from Chaplin, Monty Python, vaudeville and Saturday Night Live.”
Nominated for BEST SOLO PERFORMANCE – Denver Post Ovation Awards
Lannie Garrett says, “There is no other show on earth like RATTLEBRAIN and no other performer quite as endearing and talented as Dave Shirley.” She would know, she went to see his show 3 times last year, bringing new friends each time. Lannie was so impressed with the originality, talent and pure entertainment value of it, that she decided to bring RATTLEBRAIN to Lannie’s in 2013.
You can’t explain it. You just have to see it. Trust us, you’ll be talking about it to all of your friends. We’ll try: RATTLEBRAIN is a high-tech multimedia journey through the hilarious and boldly original mind of Dave Shirley. He draws inspiration from the greats such as Chaplin and Monty Python all the while keeping the show original and new. A former street performer, Dave utilizes a unique and otherwise useless arsenal of comedic skills to take you on a roller coaster ride riddled with surprises, jaw-dropping originality and lots and lots of laughs!
RATTLEBRAIN is Dave’s hysterical, tongue-firmly-planted-in-cheek story of an epic rise to mediocrity and a dramatic fall to redemption as told through the brilliant mind of Mr. Shirley.
ABOUT DAVE SHIRLEY
Dave began his illustrious performing career on the streets of Colorado juggling fire and swallowing razor blades, one dollar at a time. It was there that he began a lifelong pursuit of skills that had very little purpose in life. Talents such as eating fire, doing magic tricks, and balancing objects brought him lots of joy, but practically no future. Naturally, he then experimented with other types of performing such as improvisation, traditional stage theater and sketch comedy. In early 2000, Dave created the Rattlebrain Theater Company in Denver. There he succeeded as the head writer and artistic director for Rattlebrain’s critically acclaimed original comedies.
He has finally found a purpose for a lifetime’s worth of useless skills — by putting them into a single show with the sole purpose of making people laugh.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Something is wrong with Dave.
A failed street performer, Dave finds himself at the most pathetic point in his illustrious busker career as the “Silver Statue Guy,” the lowest rung on the street performer ladder. Not knowing when or how he got to this point in his life, Dave takes us on a roller coaster ride riddled with broken track in an effort to find out why and when it all went wrong.
His stops along the way include children’s birthday parties, a short lived stint as a Catholic Priest, a national tour of southeast Colorado, his unique talent to juggle lemons without the use of his hands and an endearing love story gone bad. In time, Dave understands what he must face and performs the most epic comeback performance in street performer history fulfilling his destiny to follow in his father’s footsteps. This hilarious and pathetic journey is performed as a high-tech multimedia tongue-firmly-planted-in-cheek story of an epic rise to mediocrity and a dramatic fall to redemption.
