Lannie Garrett’s Hilarious Patsy DeCline Show to Benefit the Denver Children’s Advocacy Center

November 3, 2012
8:00 pm

An evening of fun, friends and music!

The Denver Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) provides a continuum of care for traumatized children and their families.  DCAC serves children who have been sexually abused or traumatized by witnessing homicide or extreme acts of violence.  Please join us for this fundraising event benefiting this worthy organization.

Lannie Garrett stars in her tongue-in-cheek spoof of all the big haired Country queens of the ’50s and ’60s.  This is NOT a Patsy Cline tribute, but a rollicking, rawhide celebration and tease of everything Country!

Lannie created the “Patsy” character as a joke during one Stock Show season, and has been performing “The Patsy DeCline Show” to sold-out crowds ever since.  The show is a spoof on everything country fans hold sacred.  Patsy DeCline (not to be confused with a gal with a name very similar to hers), is a mixture of Loretta, Kitty, Dolly, and all the other big-haired country babes we know and love.

Patsy is backed by her devoted band, The  Lazy Boy Rockers, one of the hottest pedal steel-driven bands around.  The show includes riotous comedy songs and stories and features music by legends such as Merle Haggard, Bob Wills, Lefty Frizzel, George Jones, Tammy Wynette and more.

“This reviewer has never laughed so hard at a live music performance.” – LMNOP-Web Review

Huntington’s Disease Society Benefit – with Neil Diamond Tribute Show! FUN!

October 24, 2012
8:00 pm

The Rocky Mountain Chapter

of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America

An evening of fun, food, friends and music featuring Aaron Rose’s Neil Diamond Tribute Show.  The party starts at 6:30pm with cocktails and munchies!  We’ll have a silent auction and a live auction too.

The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society supports people affected by Huntington’s Disease and their families.  Please join us for this wonderful evening benefiting this worthy cause.

We are pleased to present this high energy, one-of-a-kind Neil Diamond Tribute Band.  Singer Aaron Rose’s “Forever in Blue Jeans” show is complete with a full piece band, that is dedicated to giving audiences the feeling that they are at a real Neil Diamond concert.  You’ll enjoy songs such as “Sweet Caroline,” “Cracklin’ Rose,” “Song Sung Blue” and many more of Neil’s greatest hits!

It’s a devastating, hereditary, degenerative brain disorder for which there is, at present, no cure and only one FDA-approved treatment (Xenazine) for a symptom of Huntington’s Disease (HD).  HD slowly diminishes the affected individual’s ability to walk, talk and reason.  Eventually, the person with HD becomes totally dependent upon others for his or her care. HD profoundly affects the lives of entire families — emotionally, socially and economically.

A Brief History of How the Huntington’s Disease Society Began

Story teller, musician and American folk icon, Woody Guthrie struggled with Huntington’s Disease during his adult life. He lost the battle in 1967, he was just 55 years old.  During the more than 15 years that the disease affected him, he struggled to continue to communicate his conviction that every man, woman and child has within them the power to make a difference.

Soon after his death, his widow Marjorie vowed to do something about this silent killer. At that time, not much was known about the disease, so Marjorie set out to change that. From that first moment, when Marjorie Guthrie reached out to other HD families, a worldwide movement began that would change the lives of those living with HD and bring hope to families.

Kinky Mink’s FREE Concert Showcase (Lounge ala 1980′s Fun!)

October 9, 2012
8:00 pm

The band is videotaping their show tonight and YOU’RE INVITED to be part of the fun!

Kinky Mink is a sly, swanky trio that has recast 1980′s metal, hair band and rock music – think Jessica Rabbit meets Motley Crue.

Don’t be fooled!  Kinky Mink is not a cover band.  The members have rearranged, recomposed, and re-envisioned each of the songs on their set list, paying homage to the originals while keeping it “kinky.”

Classics of the 1980s like, “Sharp Dressed Man,” becomes a slinky blues and harmonica number, “Sweet Child O’Mine,” becomes a haunting lullaby with echo effects, “Call Me” becomes a flamenco number complete with castanets, “Crazy for You” sees vocalist Nancy Stohlman slithering across the piano ala the Fabulous Baker Boys, and Billy Idol himself could give away the bride at the Mink’s “White Wedding” with floor-length veil and black roses.  And we can’t even tell you what they did to “Every Rose Has it’s Thorn” — you’ll just have to see it for yourself.

Together, as Kinky Mink, Nancy Stohlman, Nick Busheff, and Scott Ryplewski create a sound that feels much bigger than the three of them.  They bring class, originality, freshness, theatrics, and floor-length sparkly dresses to the 1980′s nostalgia.  So if you’re in the mood for Ozzie or Axel while drinking a martini, check out Kinky Mink and prepare to be surprised.

Minton Sparks (acclaimed Nashville recording artist, storyteller)

October 13, 2012
8:00 pm

Minton Sparks is a storyteller and performance artist all rolled into one.

At her show, you will hear laughing, hollering, and crying.  You’ll see people listening intently and getting caught up in the moments she creates.  Sparks has that effect on people.  It’s mighty hard to envision singular performances by a poet and short story author, a character actor and a songwriter being offered on a single bill.  That is, until one, Minton Sparks takes the stage.

She’s performed in the American Songbook Series at the Lincoln Center, served as teller-in-residence at the Jonesborough National Storytelling Festival, been invited to the prestigious Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered, shared the stage with the likes of Rodney Crowell, John Prine and Nanci Griffith and has received some of the highest possible praise for a southern writer — being called the lovechild of Flannery O’Connor and Hank Williams.  These are no insignificant accomplishments.

She delivers words in beelines of bluesy rhythm and worries the hooks—and there are hooks—backed solely by the nimble acoustic guitar work of John Jackson, who’s perhaps best known for having played with Bob Dylan.  And she inhabits each character in full-bodied fashion;  now buck dancing, now chicken strutting, now delivering gossip with a self-righteous shrug.

Her albums boast the contributions of no less than Waylon Jennings and multi-instrumentalist, Darrell Scott, the next Irish siren, Maura O’Connell and bluesman Keb’ Mo’, and the third Grammy-winning acoustic producer, Gary Paczosa and players including John Jackson, blues pianist, Steve Conn, mandolin virtuoso, Chris Thile and clawhammer banjo stylist, Abigail Washburn.  All of which is to say, musicians of stature from all corners of the world dig Sparks’ unorthodox work.  You will too.

The best way to experience her hybrid of performance poetry, music and monologue artistry is live — especially in a venue as intimate as Lannie’s, where she and guitarist, John Jackson cast their spell on people likely to hear their own relatives, histories and family secrets reflected in her pieces.

National: Soul/R&B recording artist: Markeisha Ensley

September 2, 2012
8:00 pm

Listening to the sounds of singer-songwriter Markeisha Ensley is like indulging in a rich, flour-less chocolate cake while drinking a well-aged, red wine.  She combines piano-playing flair with smooth soul, her mellifluous voice soaring over unforgettable melodies.

Originally from Colorado, she is the winner of the 2011 Abe Olman Scholarship Award for Excellence in Songwriting from the Songwriters Hall of Fame/Songwriters Guild of America, with previous recipients including John Legend.

A cross between Alicia Keys and Anita Baker, Markeisha strikes an uplifting groove and graces the stage with a powerful, undeniable presence.

Markeisha mixes a unique blend of Motown doo-wop harmonies, pop melodies and gospel singing on her new EP, Talk to Me, a sultry selection of up-tempos and ballads on love.   Smooth and sexy, the 5 songs were written by the singer as reflection on her recent travels to France and the Caribbean.  Recorded with her band in New York at Flux Studios (Mick Jagger, Jennifer Lopez, Babyface), the EP is produced by up-and-coming producer, David Amber.

This amazing young artist has won honorable mentions in the Billboard World Songwriting Contest and recognition by BMI/Songwriters Association of Washington, where she was asked to perform at the Smithsonian Museum alongside legendary Motown songwriter Lamont Dozier (“Stop! In the Name of Love”).  She has toured throughout the country, appeared on “Showtime at the Apollo” and recently completed a residency performing in St. Barths.

“Singer/songwriter Markeisha Ensley brings a rare passion to her work. Her soulful voice, arresting and compelling, soars over her beautifully crafted melodies and lyrics.  She will undoubtedly have a long future in the music industry.” – Bob Leone Projects Director Songwriters Hall of Fame

Deemed “avant sonic acrobats” by LA Weekly, Duo del Sol’s music sparkles with kinetic energy and soul.

At once compared to Radiohead while still bringing in a Gypsy element reminiscent of Django and Grappelli, this duo puts on a concert show that excites audiences and thrills fans from coast to coast.  Passionate, energetic, romantic and intelligent, violinist, Javier Orman (from Uruguay) and guitarist, Tom Farrell, (Chicago, Ill.) are artists in every sense of the word.  The creativity of their original music has been called nothing less than, “genius.”

Each musician brings their own special quality to the stage and to each composition…Antonio Banderas with a bit of El Mariachi thrown in.

On stage, this duo takes no prisoners!  They harness the raw energy of a rock band by wildly stretching their instruments beyond traditional limits.  Guitarist, Tom Farrell’s musical beginnings were inspired by Black Sabbath, the Cult, Metallica, and Led Zeppelin and violinist, Javier Orman is addicted to powerful, expressive music, saying that great music transports him to alternate universes.

Along with too many credits to mention, Farrell recorded for the soundtrack of actor, Will Ferrell’s movie, “Casa de mi Padre.” Orman has toured with the Entropy Ensemble (a hybrid chamber/jazz group), performed throughout Latin America, and teaches children through a program he founded called “Kidzymphony.”

“The perfect example of what you get when you put two highly skilled musicians together whose creativity borders on genius…The compositions are brilliantly written and allow Javier Orman (violinist) and Tom Farrell (guitarist) to showcase their individual musical prowess.” – I Am Entertainment Magazine

“An…intoxicating swirl of classical forms…like a fine red wine.” – Now This Sound is Brave

Naughty Pierre’s Burlesque & Comedy Show w/special guest host: National burlesque star Foxy Tann!

April 12, 2012
8:00 pm
September 13, 2012
8:00 pm

A VERY special one night only show, don’t miss it!

Naughty Pierre, your irascible and quick-witted host, has assembled a cast of adorable Burlesque dancers and Vaudeville variety acts to offer a night of excitement, laughter, and unforgettable fun!

Featuring old-fashioned burlesque from the ’20s and ’30s as well as modern twists on the classic form, this show is sexy, sassy, and fun. Every high-energy night includes comedians, torch song singers, puppet shows, belly dancers, magicians… Grab a date – it’s a perfect date night – or throw your bachelorette/bachelor parties in the classiest room in town.

Thursday, September 13th we present nationally renowned special guest star emcee, The Boss of Burlesque…
Foxy Tann!

The Fox (pictured left) has been seen emceeing and performing at everything from block parties to fundraisers to pageants to parades – including the infamous “brick toss” Loring Block Party!  In 2006, The Fox’s first foray into the genre of burlesque happened when “The Naughty Naughty Show: A Not So Nude Burlesque Revue” was commissioned by the Seville Cabaret in Minneapolis and The Wham Bam Thank You Maams were born. For six months, this weekly show upped the ante and put naughty back on its way to cult status.

All that popularity had to lead to something and it did – “Best Troupe” and “Most Vegas” at Miss Exotic World 2006.  Being the largest and most prestigious burlesque pageant on the planet, Miss Exotic World opened up doors to The Fox, performing with Margaret Cho in her burlesque review in LA, The Sensuous Woman, then traveling to London and performing to rave reviews on The West End with European burlesque sensation Immodesty Blaize, and then packing the house with Tease-O-Rama and Little Minsky’s both in San Francisco.

Lately, Foxy has concentrated on letting the world at large know that The Fox has arrived, traveling the festival circuit and performing in Denver, Chicago, Toronto, New York and Vegas, not to mention Eau Claire, Saint Paul, Madison and Milwaukee. Wherever she goes, The Fox is not forgotten!

You can’t miss this amazing night, it will certainly be one to remember!

This is not your stale old “drag” show, but a night of ILLUSION and glamour rarely seen in Denver. The “gals” of Viva Las Divas will step up the game in a show that is glitter and glitz, comedy, camp and more.

This show is hosted by two of the most prestigious and talented female illusion artists this side of the Mississippi.  The beloved (and they’re best friends, too!), Alexandra Winters and Harley Quinn!

Whether performing like whirling dervishes, regular ole “hell on heels,” or dishing out quips and comebacks to their audiences, working a crowd is nothing new to these two pros.

Alexandra is best known in the “art of illusion” circuit for her spot on performances as the Divine Miss Midler and Harley has worked “her” magic on the gay rodeo circuit across America (albeit with more a Rodeo Drive touch).  Together they bring over 10 feet of comic timing and pageant queen sizzle to the stage.

Yes, you’ll see the classics like Cher, but also Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Drag Kings and even a national touring guest artist from time to time.

The night gives a nod and warm salute to all the incredibly talented illusion artists that have graced the stages of Las Vegas, New York and Paris.  VIVA LAS DIVAS!

There will be featured guest artists and stars who will perform variety numbers in diverse garb and drag.  Some of these guest artists include:

FELONY MISDEMEANOR (former Miss Gay El Paso) Whether it’s Beyonce, Janet Jackson or something completely unexpected, this drag superstar will keep you smiling.

“POP PRINCESS” – SASHA ANDREWS, the youngest, the rebel, brings a touch of Taylor Swift or Avril Lavigne to the show.

VENUS SEXTON really sings! Calling up Etta James and Billie Holiday or working a mean Mariah Carey.

KIERA SEXTON (former Miss Gay Colorado) is known for her glamorous nods to Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez.

MR. BOOTZY EDWARD COLLYNZ, the drag KING amongst the divas, will dance his way into your heart with Usher, Rick James or Chuck Berry.  Amazing!
