National: Soul/R&B recording artist: Markeisha Ensley

CD RELEASE PARTY – “TALK TO ME”

Listening to the sounds of singer-songwriter Markeisha Ensley is like indulging in a rich, flour-less chocolate cake while drinking a well-aged, red wine.  She combines piano-playing flair with smooth soul, her mellifluous voice soaring over unforgettable melodies.

Originally from Colorado, she is the winner of the 2011 Abe Olman Scholarship Award for Excellence in Songwriting from the Songwriters Hall of Fame/Songwriters Guild of America, with previous recipients including John Legend.

A cross between Alicia Keys and Anita Baker, Markeisha strikes an uplifting groove and graces the stage with a powerful, undeniable presence.

ABOUT MARKEISHA’S MUSIC

Markeisha mixes a unique blend of Motown doo-wop harmonies, pop melodies and gospel singing on her new EP, Talk to Me, a sultry selection of up-tempos and ballads on love.   Smooth and sexy, the 5 songs were written by the singer as reflection on her recent travels to France and the Caribbean.  Recorded with her band in New York at Flux Studios (Mick Jagger, Jennifer Lopez, Babyface), the EP is produced by up-and-coming producer, David Amber.

ABOUT MARKEISHA

This amazing young artist has won honorable mentions in the Billboard World Songwriting Contest and recognition by BMI/Songwriters Association of Washington, where she was asked to perform at the Smithsonian Museum alongside legendary Motown songwriter Lamont Dozier (“Stop! In the Name of Love”).  She has toured throughout the country, appeared on “Showtime at the Apollo” and recently completed a residency performing in St. Barths.

 QUOTE

“Singer/songwriter Markeisha Ensley brings a rare passion to her work. Her soulful voice, arresting and compelling, soars over her beautifully crafted melodies and lyrics.  She will undoubtedly have a long future in the music industry.” – Bob Leone Projects Director Songwriters Hall of Fame

National recording artists: Dúo del Sol (violin/guitar)

With special guest appearance by Lannie Garrett!

Deemed “avant sonic acrobats” by LA Weekly, Duo del Sol’s music sparkles with kinetic energy and soul.

Their style is hard to describe, at once compared to Radiohead while still bringing in a Gypsy element reminiscent of Django and Grappelli.  This duo puts on a concert show that excites audiences and thrill fans from coast to coast.  Passionate, energetic, romantic and intelligent, violinist, Javier Orman (from Uruguay) and guitarist, Tom Farrell, (Chicago, Ill.) are artists in every sense of the word.  The creativity of their original music has been called nothing less than, “genius.”

Each musician brings their own special quality to the stage and to each composition…Antonio Banderas with a bit of El Mariachi thrown in.

Recently, along with too many credits to mention, guitarist, Tom Farrell recorded for the soundtrack of Will Ferrell’s movie, “Casa de mi Padre.”  Violinist, Javier has toured with Entropy Ensemble, a hybrid chamber/jazz group, has performed all throughout Latin America and teaches children through a program he founded, “Kidzymphony.”

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear this exceptional artistic duo at Lannie’s when they appear for the first time in Colorado.  We promise, you will be hearing more from them and when you do, you can say you were in the audience one special and intimate night.  We promise you’ll be happy you did.

Naughty Pierre’s Burlesque & Comedy Show w/special guest host: National burlesque star Foxy Tann!

THIS WEEK’S SHOW FEATURES GUEST BURLESQUE STAR AND HOST, THE “BOSS” OF BURLESQUE, MISS FOXY TANN!

A VERY special one night only show, don’t miss it!

Naughty Pierre, your irascible and quick-witted host, has assembled a cast of adorable Burlesque dancers and Vaudeville variety acts to offer a night of excitement, laughter, and unforgettable fun!

Featuring old-fashioned burlesque from the ’20s and ’30s as well as modern twists on the classic form, this show is sexy, sassy, and fun. Every high-energy night includes comedians, torch song singers, puppet shows, belly dancers, magicians… Grab a date – it’s a perfect date night – or throw your bachelorette/bachelor parties in the classiest room in town.

Thursday, September 13th we present nationally renowned special guest star emcee, The Boss of Burlesque…
Foxy Tann!

The Fox (pictured left) has been seen emceeing and performing at everything from block parties to fundraisers to pageants to parades – including the infamous “brick toss” Loring Block Party!  In 2006, The Fox’s first foray into the genre of burlesque happened when “The Naughty Naughty Show: A Not So Nude Burlesque Revue” was commissioned by the Seville Cabaret in Minneapolis and The Wham Bam Thank You Maams were born. For six months, this weekly show upped the ante and put naughty back on its way to cult status.

All that popularity had to lead to something and it did – “Best Troupe” and “Most Vegas” at Miss Exotic World 2006.  Being the largest and most prestigious burlesque pageant on the planet, Miss Exotic World opened up doors to The Fox, performing with Margaret Cho in her burlesque review in LA, The Sensuous Woman, then traveling to London and performing to rave reviews on The West End with European burlesque sensation Immodesty Blaize, and then packing the house with Tease-O-Rama and Little Minsky’s both in San Francisco.

Lately, Foxy has concentrated on letting the world at large know that The Fox has arrived, traveling the festival circuit and performing in Denver, Chicago, Toronto, New York and Vegas, not to mention Eau Claire, Saint Paul, Madison and Milwaukee. Wherever she goes, The Fox is not forgotten!

VIVA LAS DIVAS: Art of Illusion DRAG SHOW w/ Alexandra Winters & Harley Quinn – LAST SHOW OF THE SEASON: FREE!

LAST SHOW OF THE SEASON:  FREE!

This is not your stale old “drag” show, but a night of ILLUSION and glamour rarely seen in Denver. The “gals” of Viva Las Divas will step up the game in a show that is glitter and glitz, comedy, camp and more.

This show is hosted by two of the most prestigious and talented female illusion artists this side of the Mississippi.  The beloved (and they’re best friends, too!), Alexandra Winters and Harley Quinn!

Whether performing like whirling dervishes, regular ole “hell on heels,” or dishing out quips and comebacks to their audiences, working a crowd is nothing new to these two pros.

Alexandra is best known in the “art of illusion” circuit for her spot on performances as the Divine Miss Midler and Harley has worked “her” magic on the gay rodeo circuit across America (albeit with more a Rodeo Drive touch).  Together they bring over 10 feet of comic timing and pageant queen sizzle to the stage.

Yes, you’ll see the classics like Cher, but also Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Drag Kings and even a national touring guest artist from time to time.

The night gives a nod and warm salute to all the incredibly talented illusion artists that have graced the stages of Las Vegas, New York and Paris.  VIVA LAS DIVAS!

There will be featured guest artists and stars who will perform variety numbers in diverse garb and drag.  Some of these guest artists include:

FELONY MISDEMEANOR (former Miss Gay El Paso) Whether it’s Beyonce, Janet Jackson or something completely unexpected, this drag superstar will keep you smiling.

“POP PRINCESS” – SASHA ANDREWS, the youngest, the rebel, brings a touch of Taylor Swift or Avril Lavigne to the show.

VENUS SEXTON really sings! Calling up Etta James and Billie Holiday or working a mean Mariah Carey.

KIERA SEXTON (former Miss Gay Colorado) is known for her glamorous nods to Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez.

MR. BOOTZY EDWARD COLLYNZ, the drag KING amongst the divas, will dance his way into your heart with Usher, Rick James or Chuck Berry.  Amazing!

The Lionel Young Blues Band (virtuoso electric violin, horns and guitar-driven band)

Lionel Young is a high energy performer with a bent for the Blues.  His Lionel Young Blues Band has won numerous awards for BEST BLUES BAND in and around the Colorado region.  They will be rockin’ the room at Lannie’s on Sunday, September 16th at 7:30pm!

Lionel has had the honor of working with such showbiz luminaries as:  Count Basie, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Paige/Robert Plant, Doc Severenson, Linda Ronstadt, Living Color, Billy Taylor, Woodie Herman, Stanley Turrentine, Homesick James, Homer Brown, Hamlet Bluiett, Chief Bae, and Johnny Long.

Fans of the driven, classically trained Young, love his distinctive brand of Blues on the electric violin. His show features not only his own originals, but interpretations of Blues classics by Willie Dixon, Leadbelly and Stevie Ray Vaughan.  These interpretations show off the strength and passion of Young’s playing, as well as his smooth vocals and unique translations. The songs, which include his award-winning composition, “Brown Cloud Over Denver,” and “Hey, O.J.,” a controversial little gem, alternately stir up social concerns and soothe the weary soul. It’s prime. It’s fun. It’s Lionel Young.

Throughout his career, Lionel has won numerous awards including:  The International Blues Challenge (IBC) Solo Award in 2007, The Young Artist Award (Pittsburgh Symphony), The Concerto Contest (Carnegie-Mellon), The Passamenic Award (Branchwood String Quartet), and the award for the Best Blues Band in Westword Newspaper’s Best of Denver.  Lionel also won a position with The Denver Chamber Orchestra and premiered a solo piece by William Hill.

Critics say:

“If you’re not familiar with  Lionel, you’re missing out.  A classically trained violinist, he’s turned  the corner into a quirky brand of Blues.  Nearly everyone who’s seen him says, “I’ve never seen anyone play  violin and make it sound like a guitar,” or “I’ve never… his playing  the… man, that’s good!”

“The Lionel Young Band knocked it out……expanding to embrace a New  Orleans vibe that packed the dance floor.”
