PHAMALY Night Fundraiser!

Lannie’s is proud to host a night of entertainment to benefit PHAMALY (The Physically Handicapped Actors and Musical Artists League)
Sunday, February 28th at 7:30 p.m.

PHAMALY member, Leonard E. Barrett, Jr. and award winning musical director for PHAMALY, Donna Debreceni will perform the hit show
“Unforgettable – The Songs of Nat King Cole, Mathis, Marvin and more.”

Lannie Garrett created, wrote and produced this show.  She loves all kinds of music and the many shows she has created reflect that, from Big Band, Disco, to Gypsy jazz and more.  Lannie is also inspired by many of her favorite male Soul/R&B/pop and jazz singers and had been thinking about creating a show that would honor those singers.  As luck would have it, she attended last summer’s PHAMALY musical, “Man of La Mancha” at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and she found herself mesmerized by the talented, charismatic Leonard E.Barrett, Jr. in the lead role of Don Quixote. Wow! It clicked! HE could be her star!

The first set of the show “Unforgettable” features hits from Nat King Cole’s prolific career. Classics like: “Unforgettable,” “Mona Lisa,” “Route 66″ and the festive, “Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer!”  Audiences also learn more about Cole’s personal life, triumphs and set-backs. The second set shines light, in story and song, on the greats from Johnny Mathis, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, James Brown and more.

Leonard E. Barrett, Jr. is a soulful entertainer who brings his love for acting and singing to the stage with every performance. A favorite of Denver area theater goers, Barrett’s performances have garnered him rave reviews and a loyal following of avid fans. Leonard has won numerous acting awards including an Ovation Award for Best Actor in a Musical by the Denver Post in 2004, Best Actor in a Musical voted by the readers of the Denver Post in 2007, Westword’s Best Season for an Actor in 2007, Best Year for an Actor in 2008 voted by the readers of the Denver Post, and more.

“The other worldly Barrett…He’s a consummate showman.”- John Moore, Denver Post Drama Critic

“…he was born to be on stage.” – Steve Wilson, Denver director

“Leonard Barrett’s star quality is on full display as Cervantes/Don Quixote. Barely recognizable in his makeup, completely immersed in the role, masterful, powerful and tender, he controls the stage whenever he’s on it.” – Juliet Wittman, Westword Drama Critic

Denver Lyric Opera Guild: Valentine’s Day Matinee of opera, operetta and musical theatre

Denver Lyric Opera Guild Presents
Jennifer DeDominici starring in a Valentine’s Day Cabaret: Love and Romance -
a vocally glorious afternoon of opera, operetta and musical theatre

Opera singers do it without microphones!!  Come enjoy a romantic afternoon with your loved one for Valentine’s Day.  Soar together with love duets and songs by Puccini, Kern, Rodgers and Hammerstein, operetta composers and many more.  Denver Lyric Opera Guild’s 2007 competition winner Jennifer DeDominici has moved on to New York, but she’s flying back to Denver for this performance.  She and her tenor partner, the incredible, Brian Stinar, will pull out all the stops, shaking the rafters with their powerful voices and larger-than-life love melodies.  Feel the world melt away into the sweetness of love!  See for yourself the kind of talent that wins our statewide opera competition.

Jennifer DeDominici, American Lyric Mezzo-Soprano, received rave reviews for March 2008 performances with Opera Theatre of the Rockies in the Gazette Telegraph:
“DeDominici was indeed as beautiful, fiery, and sexy a Carmen as the pre-show buzz promised – or at least that’s the impression I got before my opera glasses fogged up.  DeDominici has a sultry lower register and a smooth, silky tone that can turn angry and shrill when the drama requires it.  She’s also a convincing actress, whether seductive or raging.”

“DeDominici delivers a gemlike performance.  DeDominici’s voice is as fluid and gleaming as a deep, running stream at night.” -Westword

In 2008, Jennifer performed in the critically-acclaimed production of “Nixon in China” with Opera Colorado, in Opera Colorado’s star-studded “Madama Butterfly,” as Sharon Falconer in an excerpt of “Elmer Gantry” for the Opera America National Convention, and in the highly successful run of the Arvada Center for the Performing Arts’ production of “Les Miserables.”

SCHTICKING TO THE MAN SINCE 2003

Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad is a refreshing mix of comedy, music, and bits of mini- burlesque, featuring comedian Susannah Perlman.  Susannah says she learned to smoke at Hebrew School, got drunk at her Bat-Mitzvah and would rather have more schtuppa than the chupah.  The show will deliver the laughs as Susannah deconstructs years of tradition, expectations, and guilt in a fast-paced vaudeville extravaganza.  “It won’t be yo’ mama’s Fiddler,” she says.   Audiences will also find out the answers to such burning questions as, what’s in Gefilte Fish?…it’s “Fear Factor” time for Jews!  Susannah will be accompanied on stage by 2 fabulous dancers, known as Sister Schmaltz.  You don’t have to be Jewish to love this show!

Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad will be sharing the show with the hilarious singing comedy duo, Good for the Jews.   The Chicago Jewish News said that Rob Tannenbaum and David Fagin of Good for the Jews, “They appeal to the same type of young-adult audience that eats up performers like Jon Stewart and Sarah Silverman.”  The Baltimore Jewish Times said, “This is not your father’s Judaism: funny, loud, over-the-top.  Jews with an edge and proud of it.”   Check ‘em out at goodforthejews.net
