Bob Dubac’s Male Intellect: The 2nd Coming

Bob Dubac’s Male Intellect: The 2nd Coming    $30.00

Friday & Saturday, May 15th-16th    8pm
ROBERT DUBAC’s MALE INTELLECT: THE 2nd COMING!.
“Hilarious” “Intelligent” “Provocative” and “Scorching” all describe this production.  It’s comedy on steroids.
Fueled with humor, Robert Dubac takes your audience on a fast paced joy ride over the pot-holed highways of cultural hypocrisy. Armed with a fertile imagination and rapier wit he portrays multiple characters who take turns beating the hornets nest of hype and spin with the big stick of knowledge. Their mission? Separating the Truth from Illusion. Your audience’s reward? They get to see the Bigger Picture.
If you like your satire served up with a clever intelligent edge; if you want to hear a voice that speaks as though it originated from inside of your own frustrated head; if you are tired of adolescent comedy generated by the mediocrity of television; then come on down!

The bottom line simply is Rob Dubac is “Amazing!” With rapid-fire presentation, changing characters instantly, Dubac’s honest funniness comes from intelligent thinking and observation. He’s not mean. He’s not cruel. He doesn’t put anyone down, stepping all over them with spiked heels, like many so-called comedians feel the necessity to do to grab a laugh. He’s not grossly shocking with rough, lame or uncouth language for attention. He’s just honest, warm, tender, observant, insightful and very, very funny.

One of the stunning aspects of Dubac’s show is that he obviously enjoys his own material. He’s not just rattling off jokes because he thinks they are funny. His eyes dance with a soul fire deep within, claiming he enjoys the journey as much as he wants the audience to.

With direct eye contact, he engages audience members in his dialogue. Sure-footed and personable, you can’t help but sense he is talking directly to you, with you, even when snuggled in the midst of several audience members. For a one-man show, that is a very good thing, as well as an “amazing” aspect.

Loaded with material in machine gun fashion, Male Intellect: 2nd Coming is rich in content, provocative, mind tickling, perceptive, always hysterically honest and funny, some lines are going to be missed no matter how deep the concentration. Definitely, this is a “Don’t miss Show.” I’m already chomping at the bit for his third show.

Colorado Backstage Magazine

Dubac is also a talented actor who intellectualizes the stupid aspects of human behavior through brief character-based monologues that employ a range of interesting alter-egos.  He uses magic, lighting effects and a few parlor tricks to help make his point during the performance.  He is charming and disarming.

Candye Kane Blues Band

California based Candye Kane sings in the brash blues stylings of Big Maybelle, Ruth Brown, Big Mama Thornton, Etta James (whom Candye has opened for several times) and Bessie Smith. Candye’s live show is the stuff of legend. She honors the bold blues women of the past with both feet firmly planted in the present. She belts – growls – shouts – croons and moans from a lifetime of suffering and overcoming obstacles. She’ll deliver a barrelhouse blues tune or a soulful ballad and then slay the crowd with her balls out rendition of “Whole Lotta Love” Led Zeppelin style. She often says she is a “black drag queen trapped in a white woman’s body” and she dresses the part. Bedecked in bright colored feathers, sequins and rhinestones, Kane’s performance is Mississippi by way of Las Vegas with a quick stopover in San Francisco.

Since her first Antones’ release, Home Cookin’ in 1992, she has recorded 8 cds for labels that include Discovery, Rounder/Bullseye and Sire records. Her most recent work, titled “Guitar’d and Feathered” features a remake of the song “Female Trouble;” penned by drag queen Divine for the John Waters movie of the same name and boasts guitar solos by a collection of some of the greatest players around. Produced by former Muddy Waters guitarist, Bob Margolin, it proves to be an exciting merger of Candye’s powerful vocals with scorching guitar icons.

Awards include the Best Blues Band award at the San Diego Music Awards 7 times including 2006. Other honors include winning an OUT music award in 2006 for best art design for her 7th CD, White Trash Girl. Best Blues CD of 2005 at the San Diego Music Awards, the Trophees France International Award 2004 for Best International Blues Chanteuse and Artist of the Year. She also unseated Jewel for Artist of the Year at the San Diego Music Awards and won the California Music Award for Best Swing-Cabaret Artist.

Her audience is a mixture of the disenfranchised: bikers, blues fans, fat girls, queers, porn fans, feminists, men who love fat girls, rockabilly kids and everyday folk flock to see Candye and hear her message of love and empowerment.
