Staging and Choreography by Piper Arpan

Paula Jayne Friedland and Janine Gastineau return in their show, OUR TIME: The Songs of Stephen Sondheim, their newest musical revue. With pianist/arranger Eric French and bassist Bijoux Barbosa , OUR TIME features over two dozen songs from Stephen Sondheim’s 25 musicals and his dozens of film and television scores.

You will learn things you never knew about the man behind these hit musicals: West Side Story, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, A Little Night Music, and Follies.

For more than five decades, Sondheim’s works have garnered him eight Tony awards (more than any other composer), a Pulitzer Prize, and eight Grammys. In OUR TIME, you’ll meet the man that many theatre enthusiasts regard as the greatest composer and lyricist in the history of the American musical theatre.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

PAULA JAYNE FRIEDLAND earned a music degree from Colorado State University before moving to New York where she spent 13 years working in the professional theatre. She played Sheila in the European tour of the Broadway musical, HAIR, starred in productions of HELLO DOLLY (Irene Molly), A CHORUS LINE (Sheila), and SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM. This year, Friedland created the original one woman show, AGING: The Musical! and in 2008 co-wrote the two-person revue, ART ISN’T EASY with Janine Gastieneau (debuting it at Lannie’s!).

JANINE GASTINEAU has “careered from career to career,” to quote Sondheim himself. She’s danced in musicals, choreographed modern dance works, directed a church choir, led a three-part harmony women’s folk trio, and written extensively about dance and the performing arts. Janine can also be seen monthly at Boulder’s Caffe Sole, singing Jazz, Standards, French Chanson, and Brazilian Boss and Sambas with her Rhythm Trio.

In her tribute show, SCREEN GEMS: SONGS FROM THE MOVIES, singer/entertainer Lannie Garrett and her talented quintet of musicians, The Errand Boys of Rhythm, pay homage to the stars and songs that lit up the movie screen. This show is a nostalgic walk down memory lane with songs from some of our favorite movies, from “The Wizard of Oz” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” to those great Elvis and Astaire vehicles and many more. They will pull at your heartstrings, give you a good laugh and certainly, stir up memories long forgotten.

Dressed in satin and rhinestones, and complete with an over-sized and hilariously show-stopping Hollywood Sign headdress, Lannie is as SHOWBIZ as the movies she sings about. The show is filled with songs and stories about the stars who performed in them and with tales of the behind-the-scenes movie “gossip” and heroism. SCREEN GEMS is a show that is musical and entertainingly informative at the same time.

GQ Magazine says about Lannie: “…the talent, the essence, the voice…an instrument that caresses and thrills. She mesmerizes and leaves her fans begging for more.”
